Malaysian agreement
Chinese group Chalco has entered into an agreement with Malaysia’s GIIG Holdings on an aluminium smelter and its associated hydro-power facilities.
The planned smelter will have a 330kt/y capacity, costing $1bn, of which Chalco will contribute 35-40% to secure an equity stake.
It will be located in Malaysia’s Sarawak state where a $2.4bn hydroelectric dam is being built.
