Alcoa completes recycling expansion
Alcoa has completed its $24M expansion of an aluminium can recycling capacity at its Tennessee, USA site.
It will increase recycling capability by nearly 50% and help secure more than 100 jobs.
Alcoa CEO Klaus Kleinfeld, said: “In the USA alone more than 46bn cans were put into landfill last year. If we could instead recycle about half of those lost cans, we could achieve our goal of a 75% recycling rate and save the emissions of two coal-fired power plants.”
The Tennessee can reclamation facility includes a crusher and delacquering furnace, supporting building enclosures, utilities and environmental systems.
