Al demand rises in North America

Preliminary estimates indicate that aluminium demand in the USA and Canada were 4.92MIbs during the first quarter of 2010, 17.6% up from the same period last year.
Aluminum Association demand for semi-fabricated (mill) products was up 12% to a total of 3.33MIbs. Apparent consumption (demand less exports) in domestic markets totaled an estimated 4.12MIbs, 17.4% above 2009.
Exports of aluminum ingot and mill products from the USA and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) totaled 794MIbs through March, 19% above last year while imports totaled 826MIbs, down 16.8%.
